Social Justice and Inclusion competency refers to the attitudes, skills, and capabilities to understand, relate, interact, work together and share experiences with individuals who have characteristics and backgrounds that are different from one’s. This simple but complex competency involves understanding and comes to terms with ways by which the forces of privilege, discrimination, oppression, power, intersection of identities and diversity interplay not only within Higher Education environments but also in the general society.

Infusing social justice into my practice is needed in order to foster an environment that is equitable for all the constituents of my institution who come from all walks of life. This competency underscores an appreciation of and commitment to diversity, tolerance, cross-understanding, advocacy, and equity not just as tools for institutional success but for the advancement of the human race. As a professional, I am constantly engaging in critical reflection on personal beliefs, biases, and predispositions that influence my practice.

Student populations represent a diverse bunch. Evidence 1 links the slides that I presented on non-traditional learners. Evidence 2 links the slides that I co-presented on international students. Evidence 3 links a paper that I wrote on student participation in a campus ministry. Professional SA practice involves relating with students from the perspectives of their individual and group identity.
